Connector Basics

  The connector was inspired by fighter jet manufacturing technology. Classification of connectors

2、The connector product type division is somewhat confusing, but technically there are only two basic ways to classify connector product categories:

According to electrical requirements, it can be classified as:

According to the special structure, it can be classified as:

The upstream industry of connector products is mainly the raw and auxiliary materials for the manufacture of connectors, including metal materials, plastic materials, electroplating materials, etc. Metal materials account for the largest proportion of the cost, followed by plastic materials, electroplating materials. Stage 1: stamping

Stamping, the manufacturing process of electronic connectors generally begins with stamping pins. Electronic connectors (pins) are stamped from thin metal strips by large, high-speed presses. One end of a large roll of metal belt is fed into the front end of the punch machine, and the other end is wound into the roll belt wheel through the hydraulic table of the punch machine, and the roll belt wheel pulls out the metal belt and rolls out the finished product.

The second stage: electroplating

Electroplating, connector pin stamping should be sent to electroplating section. At this stage, the connector's electronic contact surface is coated with various metal coatings. Similar to the stamping stage, such as the distortion, fragmentation or deformation of the pin, will also occur in the process of the stamped pin into the electroplating equipment.

The third stage: injection molding

Injection molding, the plastic box holder for the electronic connector is made in the injection molding stage. The usual process involves injecting molten plastic into metal membranes, which are then quickly cooled to form. When the molten plastic is not fully filled with the tire film, the so-called "leakage? quot;  Short Shots, which is a typical defect that needs to be tested during injection molding. Other defects include filling or partial blockage of the jack (which must be kept clean and unblocked for proper insertion of the pin during final assembly). The machine vision system used for quality inspection after injection molding is relatively simple because the backlight can easily identify box seat leaks and plug plugs.

Stage four: assembly

Assembly, the final stage of electronic connector manufacturing is finished assembly. There are two ways to connect and plug the electroplated pins with the injection box seat: single plug or combined plug. Separate insertion refers to each insertion of a pin; The combination of a plurality of pins at the same time with the box seat. Regardless of the insertion method, the manufacturer requires that all pins be tested at the assembly stage for leaks and correct positioning; Another kind of routine inspection task is related to the measurement of the spacing on the mating surface of the connector. As with the stamping stage, the assembly of the connector also presents a challenge to the automatic detection system in terms of detection speed. While most assembly lines have one or two beats per second, the vision system typically performs several different inspections for each connector that passes through the camera. So detection speed becomes an important system performance index again.
